Denver, CO: Jonathan Kaye of Boulder, CO, first round leader Wil Collins of Rapid City, SD and last year’s runner-up Zahkai Brown of Arvada, CO share the lead at 12-under par 132 after the second round of the 52nd CoBank Colorado Open at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.

Kaye, twice a winner on the PGA Tour and the 1996 Colorado Open champ, shot 31 on his first nine and posted an impressive 7-under par 65 to move into first. Collins, winner in 2005, followed up his record-setting 62 Thursday by starting birdie-eagle but made three bogeys and two pars to finish with a 2-under 70 for the day. Brown, the 2013 champ, matched Kaye with an opening 9-hole score of 31 leading to a 7-under par 65 for the day.

But seven-under wasn’t the low round of the day. Three players fired 8-under par 64s including 2010 runner-up and low amateur Gunner Wiebe of Aurora, CO, PGA Tour winner Parker McLachlin of Honolulu and Canadian Tour winner Max Rottluff of Dusseldorf, Germany. McLachlin and Rottluff are tied for 7th and Wiebe is tied for 13th overall.

Friday marked the second day of a major record being set, this one by a larger margin than Wil Collins’ 62 Thursday.

Today’s cut line, in which 65 players shot 3-under par 141 or better, shatters the previous cut line record of 1-over matched most recently in 2015.

Five amateurs made the cut with two tied for the lead at 8-under par 136 (T-13 overall). John Souza of CU Boulder and Jake Staiano of Colorado State University hold a four-stroke lead over Connor Klein of Lone Tree, CO.
