Colorado’s 27 Funnest Holes

Sick of getting beat up by lists of the “toughest” holes? So are we.

Golf is a game—and games are supposed to be fun. To narrow a list of the funnest—yes, Merriam-Webster approves—golf holes from the roughly 4,208 in the state of Colorado, we put the question to our Facebook followers and numerous other avid golfers.

We quickly found that one golfer’s fun is another’s frustration. A “fun” hole is challenging, quirky, memorable, distinctive—a hole you look forward to playing, not one you dread.

Of course, “fun” is arbitrary and subjective, and so, perforce, are these selections.

  • Hole 1, Sanctuary, Sedalia

    604 Yards Par 5

With a tee so high, it makes the fairway look like a bacon strip, Sanctuary’s opening hole drops 185 to the first landing area, then descends another 60 feet to the green. Your tee ball should have a parachute.

  • Hole 1, Willis Case Golf Course, Denver

    428 Yards Par 4

The elevated tee affords sublime mountain views and leads to a bunkered fairway that rollercoasters into the green.
