CGA Announces 2015 Players of the Year

David Oraee, Chris Thayer, David Delich and Coby Welch honored

The Colorado Golf Association and Colorado Women's Golf Association usually celebrate their Players of the Year at a Sunday brunch right before Thanksgiving.

With this year's Century of Golf Gala happening November 14, the CGA will acknowledge its Players of the Year at that star-studded centennial event. The CWGA will recognize its Players of the Year at its annual kickoff event in March during its centennial year.

The Les Fowler Player of the Year is David Oraee (above), the former CU star who made it to the Round of 16 in the U.S. Amateur, was low amateur in the HealthONE Colorado Open and qualified as an individual for the NCAA Nationals. The Greeley native closed his CU career with fourth-best stroke average in school history at 73.57. In previous years he had won both the CGA's Stroke Play and Match Play championships.

Mid-Amateur Player of the Year honors go to Chris Thayer. He was a runner-up in both the CGA Mid-Amateur Match and Stroke Play Championships. The Bear Creek Golf Club member eked out a victory on total points over 2011 Mid-Am Player of the Year Steve Irwin, who was also 2004 Les Fowler Player of the Year.

David Delich of The Broadmoor Golf Clubwinner of the CGA Senior Match Play and runner-up in the U.S Mid-Am Qualifier—receives Senior Player of the Year honors.

On the strength of his three CJGA victories, Coby Welch of Highlands Ranch is the Junior Boys Player of the Year.
