San Antonio in Spring is Simply Sublime

San Antonio has long been a favored vacation destination—especially in March and April. This Hill Country stalwart is celebrated for its singular golf, super-special events, sumptuous dining and sublime history. Here are five suggestions why “Remember the Alamo!” should also be a battle cry for taking your game deep into the heart of Texas:

1. San Antonio equates to world-class live music, and some of the best can be experienced during El Corazón De Bolero, a special event that will pay tribute to Latin bolero composers of the 1930s, 40s and 50s. March 20-22 at the Classic Theater.

2. The third oldest event on the PGA Tour, the Valero Texas Open returns for yet another gun-slinging shootout at the TPC San Antonio on March 26-29. Travel tip: In addition it being a featured member of the San Antonio Golf Trail, the 36-hole TPC San Antonio (pictured above) sits adjacent to one of the state’s preeminent golf resorts, the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country. 3. Fiesta San Antonio celebrates its 124th anniversary with another iconic, 110-event celebration of the city’s rich and diverse cultures. Don’t miss Battle of Flowers—the third-oldest parade in America—or the Fiesta’s opening ceremonies, staged in front of the historic Alamo with live entertainment, fireworks, pin and medal swapping, cascaróne busting, food and libation vending and more. April 16-26.

4. So popular are the scintillating pleasures of San Antonio River Walk that the three-mile-long public park annually attracts more tourists than the Grand Canyon. An oasis of cypress-lined paths, stone bridges and lush landscapes, River Walk further entices with a head-turning collection of hotels, alfresco restaurants, nightclubs, river cruises, boutique shops, museums, live entertainment and more. Its central location also offers quick access to dozens of other big-smile destinations including the Alamo and Dinosaur-Quest, a 21,000-square-foot entertainment center at the Rivercenter Mall.

5. More reasons to stay and play include nearby Sea World of Texas, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Antonio Zoo, remarkable Buckhorn Museum’s Texas Ranger Museum, and the Old Spanish Missions, five colonial-era compounds that were established by the Catholic Church in the 18^th century.
