Practice rounds will tee off Sunday morning, with each team—players and coaches—going out together. The actual tournament rounds will take place Monday through Wednesday. The entire event is free and the public is welcome.

We caught up with Boulder Country Club PGA Director of Golf, Kevin Bolles to get some details on what’s been going on behind the scenes.

How did Boulder Country Club get the event?

We hosted the Hosted Big 12 in 1999 so Coach (Anne) Kelly approached us few years ago with the idea of hosting this. Our main purpose of getting involved is to support the golf community, the CU golf programs and to bring events like this to Colorado.

What is the length of the course for the tournament?

The women will be playing from the middle men’s tees – course length will measure about 6,400 yards.

Will it be setup any differently?

We did a bunker renovation a few years ago. No modifications were made specifically for the tournament.

Have the CU women been practicing there for home-field advantage?

Yes they have – quite regularly. They are welcome here every week but have been by a few more times than normal in the past couple months.

Is this a step to get the Men’s Pac 12 championship – and/or NCAA regional?

We have been approached for the Pac 12 Men’s Championship, and it is definitely on the table for discussion. We’re not using the Pac 12 Women’s Championship as a steppingstone, we see it as an opportunity to support the CU community. That’s the main purpose of getting involved.

Does Boulder Country Club want – or can it accommodate – an event like that?

Absolutely. The course would play at 7,110 for the men – it’s good test of golf.

The Pac 12 Network will televise a one-hour Pac 12 Women’s Golf Championship special on Sunday, May 10th.
