Guce and Emrey Tied After Round 2 of CO Women’s Open

Sweeney remains low amateur going into final round today

Clariss Guce of Artesia, CA fired a 4-under par 68 Thursday to move into a tie for the lead with Allison Emrey (pictured above) of Charlotte at 4-under par 140 at the 21st HealthONE Colorado Women’s Open at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. Guce, a former star at Cal State-Northridge, had no blemishes on the card with four birdies on the day while Emrey also made four birdies but a costly double-bogey and bogey gave her a 1-under par round of 71.

Alone in 3rd place at 3-under 141 is 2012 champion Joy Trotter of Chino Hills, CA who posted the low round of the day (5-under 67) with a six birdie, one bogey performance. Trotter moved up 21 places Thursday after her opening round of 74. Four players are tied for 4th place at 2-under par 142 including Ashley Tait of Littleton, CO and two are tied at 1-under 143 including first round leader Karinn Dickinson of Mukilteo, WA.

First round low amateur Rachel Sweeney of Highlands Ranch, CO, a junior-to-be at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL, extended her lead to three strokes after posting a 4-over par 76 and sits at 3-over 147 (tied for 13th overall).

In the pro-am competition amateur Eric Kenealy of Broomfield, CO and professional partner Catherine O’Donnell of Ponte Vedra, FL after a blistering 10-under par 62 leaves them in the lead by two at 14-under 130. In second place at 12-under 132 is amateur Jeff Dorsey of Denver (former CEO of title sponsor HealthONE) and pro partner Allison Emrey.

In total 48 players made the championship cut at 9-over 153 or better and 12 teams made the pro-am cut at 8-under 136 or better. Those contestants will play Friday’s final round for their respective share of the $75,000 purse, with $11,000 going to the champion and $2,800 to the pro-am champion.

Parking and admission are free to the public and spectator reservations are not required at the HealthONE Colorado Women’s Open.
