Garden of Gods Club Builds Wellness Center

Members, hotel guests and the public can benefit at the home of the Kissing Camels Club

Garden of Gods Club Builds Wellness Center

For more than a half-century, Colorado Springs’ Garden of the Gods Club was a redoubt of exclusivity. Only members and guests could enjoy the club’s many amenities’—including 27 holes of golf on the Kissing Camels Golf Club that threaded through the world-renowned outcroppings.

But times have changed. Between 2007 and 2013, new owners developed the club’s resort component. And today, thanks to Judy Mackey and Brenda Smith, who purchased it in 2013, the Garden of the Gods Club & Resort is as much about being well as it is about being well-heeled.

Immediately upon buying the club, the women announced plans to enhance it with a wellness center that would be open not only to club members and their guests but also to the public. “We wanted to do something proactive on health rather than reactive,” Mackey said. Such a facility focuses on “the whole person, mind, body and soul.”

The club broke ground on the center last month and has already made progress.

The two-level, 28,000-square-foot International Health and Wellness Center (IHWC) will be located just east of the current Spa and Salon entrance on the property, according to Laura Neumann, the club's general manager.

“The Wellness Center is positioned to become a world-class destination health and wellness enterprise with a client base ranging from health-conscious individuals to global corporate executives,” Neumann said.

Priced at $10 million, the center will be unique by “creating a new model of healthcare, integrating traditional and holistic medicine by recognizing the importance of the mind, spirit and body in achieving optimal health and well-being,” she elaborated.

“IHWC works to optimize the human-aging process through the development of a personalized program of clinical assessment, genetics, diet, exercise, natural bio-identical hormonal supplementation, nutrition and other supplements/medications based upon the scientific principles of responsible medical care.”

The facility will be a “multipurpose building,” additionally consisting of meeting space, an executive boardroom and a “grand ballroom” for up to 250 people, Neumann said. It will also have a new Spa and Salon business, “which will be an extension of the Wellness Center, promoting a holistic approach to overall wellness and rejuvenating skincare,” she said.

Located at 3320 Mesa Road, Garden of the Gods Club also includes an 83-room hotel and sits in proximity to the Kissing Camels gated residential community.
