DU Pioneers Get 12th Consecutive Title with Commanding Win

Plus other hometown notes from this week’s women’s conference championships

Summit League

The Denver Pioneers Women’s Golf team has done it again! The team, finishing 18 strokes ahead of 2nd place Oral Roberts, continued its championship dynasty with a 12th consecutive conference title. Congratulations, ladies!

“I am so incredibly proud of this team and the way they played and carried themselves today, especially on the back nine,” said DU’s head coach Lindsay Kuhle. “They stepped up when it counted and all our hard work and deliberate practices paid off today. We were one stroke behind going into the last nine holes and really stepped up and played Pioneer golf. Sticking to the process, enjoying the experience and staying positive out there in difficult course and wind conditions.”

Competing at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, California, the Pioneers had four players in the top ten – with Elyse Smidinger (+11) taking home the individual title.

“I am so happy for Elyse for her first college career victory and to play so well under pressure the entire round,” remarked Kuhle. “She played extremely well and solid the last few holes and hit some quality shots and had great looks for birdie. She has worked so hard on her game this year and in the off-season and this is very well deserving.”

Other notable performances by DU Pioneers:

3  – Jessica Carty, +15

T8 – Aleana Groenhout, +22

T8 – Isabel Southard, +22

T14 – Mariell Bruun, +25

The Pioneers season will continue in the NCAA regionals. Denver’s tournament location is still TBD – we’ll keep you updated as soon as we learn more!
