Cordillera’s Valley Course to Host USGA Qualifier This Friday

U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur event comes to the High Country

EDWARDS, Colo.—Aug. 17, 2015—The Club at Cordillera's Valley Course will host 46 women golfers in a sectional qualifying competition for the United States Golf Association’s (USGA’s) 54th U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. It’s the first time an event of this caliber has been held in Colorado’s high country. The event will be held Aug. 21 with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. Spectators are welcome.

“There has been a tremendous response—our largest field ever—for a sectional-qualifier of this nature,” said Holly Russell, committee member for USGA. “I think the response is due largely to the spectacular setting and the professionalism of the staff at The Club at Cordillera. The course is in top condition with all of the summer rain and I know the participants are thrilled to experience this amazing venue.”

Of the 46 competitors, the top ten with the best gross scores will move onto the 54th U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, which will be held Sept. 26-Oct. 1, 2015 at the Hillwood Country Club in Nashville, Tenn., where the top senior amateur woman in the country will be determined. Competitors at Cordillera will include several locals from the Vail area, in addition to golfers from Colorado, Georgia, Arizona, Minnesota, Texas and California.

“We are thrilled and honored to host an event of this caliber,” said Mike Henritze, general manager for The Club at Cordillera. “The event will see some very competitive and serious golfers. Our hope is that many of them qualify here and go on to Nashville next month to compete at the highest level. We wish all the competitors the best of luck and extend a warm welcome to The Club at Cordillera’s Valley Course.”
