Callaway’s New Trick Shot Video is Dude Perfect

This viral video wins the internet this week.

What do you get when you mix a bunch of fun-loving guys, a long drive champion and some golf clubs?

The usual bro-tastic trick-shot video.

How about when you add in the production quality and marketing dollars of the Callaway Golf brand, naval destroyer-size theatrics, jet-skis and a heart-pumping soundtrack?

A video that extends beyond the reaches of pure, golf-related interest and into the world of viral content marketing.

The collaboration between Callaway and Dude Perfect to market their line of XR clubs is not only impressive; it is genius. The viral campaign, which also encourages usage of the hashtag #XRSpeed, features two-time Long Drive Champion Jamie Sadlowski making legendary trick shots such as: hitting a bulls eye to make a 3-pointer, launching golf balls off an aircraft carrier into tiny nets (held by dudes on jet-skis) and destroying items like watermelons, Captain America figurines and Skittles…in slow motion.

Does it get any better than that? By playing to Dude Perfect’s stunt-loving audience and combining that reach with that of their own brand, Callaway created an opportunity to appeal to more than just the golf demographic.

Since its release on March 2nd, the video has generated almost 2 million views on YouTube. Callaway doesn’t even have 2 million followers on its top three social media channels combined.

Let’s take a look:

Dude Perfect by the Numbers

YouTube: 4,393,830
Twitter:  127k
Facebook: 11,136,941

Callaway by the Numbers

YouTube: 17,348
Twitter: 188k
Facebook: 324,608

Now, let’s take a look at the engagement the video received on the respective Facebook pages.

At the time of this writing (March 10th, about 5pm MST), Callaway’s page had generated 6,064 shares while Dude Perfect’s page generated 13,212. If that one metric doesn’t make it “worth it,” then the tweets and write ups on every site from PGA.com, and SB Nation to Marketing Land, sure do.

So, the next time you’re in a golf shop and you hear “this is the driver (or irons) they used in THAT video,” or the next time you’re on the range and hear “I wish there was a kiddie pool out there for target practice,” you’ll be witness to Callaway’s #XRSpeed marketing movement.

From both a golf and marketing standpoint, all I have to say is, “Dude. It’s perfect.”
