On Monday, adidas announced the addition of another new shoe to its ever-expanding shoe tree which now lists under the weight of a dozen different models. I own a pair of one of them – the Tour 360 2.0 which for the last year has provided a level of comfort, stability, and durability I would not have thought possible a few years ago.

The adipower 4ORGED is a different kind of shoe – more athletic-looking, less rugged. It might appeal to a younger audience and, though it comes with a one-year waterproof guarantee, you might prefer to take the Tour360 2.0, with its comprehensive two-year guarantee, out in the rain.

It certainly ticks many boxes, but the adipower 4ORGED is really all about stability. During extensive consumer research, adidas analyzed how weight shifts in the feet during the swing and then utilized a new technique, called ‘forging’, to provide extra stability in certain parts of the shoe without needing to add more material. This avoided adding to the shoe’s weight, keeping it lightweight and nimble.

Forging targets the areas where golfers need more stability, says adidas, and then heat-presses those materials in that portion of the shoe. “The resulting heat press then hardens the material in these specific areas to provide extra lateral support,” says Masun Denison, adidas Golf’s global footwear director.

“Anytime we can keep a shoe lighter without sacrificing the technology golfers need to play their best is a huge win,” Denison continues. “The forging process is so efficient. It’s just another piece that make this such a high performing shoe, which is what golfers expect from us.”

The adipower 4ORGED comes in both spiked (men and women) and spikeless versions (adipower 4ORGED S – men only), both of which feature the company’s popular BOOST technology in the midsole, designed to give players more energy return and increased cushioning.
