The Crosswinds Golf Club - 05/27/2008 - Blame Me
Great all round, slow pace and lated teeing off because of the amount of people. Played the Jones and the Ouimet courses, I'll try the other 9 (Zaharias) at a later date on my next visit if I can.
A hard course for beginner or high handicap player. Bring plenty of balls with you if that is the case. Some very nice holes and most of the course plays from hilly lies.
Excellent day out, will be back soon.

Atlantic Country Club - 05/27/2008 - Blame Me
First time at this course. Not to far from where we were staying but it is still none the less off the beaten track. Very well sign posted from the main roads though.
Very quiet when we arrived and teed off 10 mins early. Too windy to practice on the driving range so practice putted.
The course is in great condition though some of the fiarways were being air rated. Greens were slow'ish but excellent. Bunkers had workable sand which was helpful if you happened to find yourself in a bunker. Not to fine but just right and they had been all raked before the day started, good course management!
We did wait on a few holes for a group in front and a group behind did catch us but overall it was a regular round of no more than 4.5 hours. The wind on the day we played almost made some shots impossible, so watch out for that if you play. The course could do with a few bells as most of the holes played blind which could make for some unhappy golfers if you play through by accident.
Overall, it was great as it was another day not at work. Not the cheapest place I've played and not the best for the money spent. Would go back though!

Mattawang Golf Club - 04/24/2008 - Blame Me
Great place and out of the way so not many play during the week which mean 4 hour rounds. It has a small driving range at the back of the club house for a quick practice.
Some hard holes and long par 3's. The last two hole are probably the best of the lot, 17 wills you to take the driver and pound it, but its best to lay up in front of the creek. The 18th is the signature hole (I think). Long drive to a sloping fairway, try to get close to the creek for this dogleg left and a nice iron/hybrid (get top of the hill and its long iron or 5 wood) to this up hill green. Goo out the back to the right and you're in the lake
If it is wet the day(s) before expect soggy fairways (unless drainage has been fixed). Great value and looking forward to going back soon.

La Tourette Golf Course - 04/24/2008 - Blame Me
First time at La Tourette (April 24th 08), and what a public course this is. Excellent condition in the fairways and greens. Not so hard front 9 but the back 9 is hard due to the uneven lies. It plays longer than it looks and everything about the place just feels right. Overall experience was great, very professional!!!
I Was happy with my play as I had a par for all the par 3's. Played from the back tee boxes and did better than I thought I would being the first time on this course. I would also recommend that you get a very early start on this course as it will fill up quickly due to it being excellent value.

Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course - 11/27/2007 - Blame Me
Getting to the course is easy if you don't drive and live in the City. Take the 1 train to the last strop on the 1 line (get to the front of the train), keep right at the end of the platform, turn right down the stairs of the station and walk 5/10 minutes through the park on your left. Walk under the bridge turn left and the club house is in front of you.
The course is laid out in 4 groups of holes with a little bit of walking between each group. If you would like to walk and carry your clubs its not bad in the spring or warm autumn months but it is not nice in the hot summer/freezing months.
Hole Groups:
Short walk from club holes to - 1 - 2 - 12 - 13 - 14
When finished hole 2 it is a slightly longer walk to hole - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
After finishing hole 7 you walk back on yourself to the 3rd group of holes which should take no more than 5 minutes - 8 - 9- 10 - 11
Finishing hole 11 gives you a slightly up hill walk to the final group of holes - 15 - 16 - 17 - 18
When you finish the last you have a 10 minute walk back to the club house.
I know its near winter and you have to expect some kind of ground repair at this time of year but I did not expect over half the greens to be out of play. Currently they have temp greens while new greens are being installed or old one being repaired. I shouldn't complain as we had a reduced rate for the round ($30). The greens that were playable we good, though needed a trim (time of year again I think).
Everything other than that was OK, plenty of leaves on the ground (its fall after all) so expect to lose a few balls in the fairway.
It started fast but we caught up with a few groups in front, one guy teaching his 3 kids to play, he would not let anyone through w4nk8r. So what would of been a quick round of golf during November ended up being a typical summer round of 5-6 hours on a NY public golf course. He obviously wasn't teaching the golf etiquette.
I like this course because of the long par 5's and the last 4 holes, its fun and even better when you score your best ever score (though I think that was to do with the temp greens being 20 yards or so closer to the tee).
