Well the balls that fly farthest are illegal. You can get them from various places on the web.
As far as spin goes, I’m not accomplished enough as a player to tell minor differences but I do know that I even I can spin the HX Tour.
I don’t know about cover material either because I test a balls softness/hardness by how it feels coming off of my clubs.
Right now I am palying a variety of balls. I play Pro V1’s, HX Tour’s, TP Red’s, and D2 Distance. I was also using the Dimplit ball for awhile but they scuffed so easily I stopped using them.

Q:What ball do you think flies the furthest? A: ProV’s
Q:What ball do you think spins the most? A: ProV’s
Q:What ball do you think has the softest cover? A: ProV’s
Q:What ball do you think has the hardest cover? A: I think for the most part when it comes to balls, you get what you pay for if the balls are under $20/dozen. There’s a lot of these inexpensive balls out there that when I have hit them it feels like I just hit a rock. My opinion is the TopFlite XL’s, XL 2000’s are the hardest that I can recall hitting. Above $20/dozen, especially $28-$50 I think the get-what-you-pay-for does not hold at all, except with the ProV’s.
Q:And last but not least, what ball do you play with and why? A:ProV1x – I get the balance of feel around the greens, spin, without giving up distance off the tee with them. Although, I seem to go through stretches when I start to loose more balls/rd, and that gets expensive with ProV’s, so I play an NXT Tour – I’m a total gambler, never like to lay-up. :) . NXT Tour’s are about $15 less a dozen than the ProV’s and I believe they give me close to the same distance, playability and feel as the ProV – not as much spin though.
With that I will add: Q:Best ball at each price point? A: Under $20/dozen – Pinnacles, $20-$30 – Titlist NXT’s, $30 – $40 – not sure, above $40 – ProV’s
My 2 cents.
There are so many golf ball brands that have many different kinds associted with them.
