I think Phil’s “family” line is BS. He owes his lifestyle to the PGA Tour. It is the first FedEx Cup. It is only four weeks long. The Tour needs the support of the top players (and they owe it to them). Plus after the Tour Championship the players can take a longer break than normal because it is earlier in the season than in the past. Also, this does not only apply to Phil. It applies to Tiger and all the others who have skipped the FedEx tournaments. Suck it uo for 4 weeks and make golf exciting…

Atta boy Phil! Nice to finally see someone play well in the final paring with Tiger. So tired of watching the best players in the world wet themselves coming down the stretch in tournaments where Tiger is in contention. Phil made Tiger have to beat him and he couldn’t do it. Good to see we have a rivalry again.
As far as the FedEx cup, who cares about this meaningless “Championship” anyway? I mean really. The players don’t, why should we? It doesn’t bother me that players are skipping cup events because I see the whole thing as just a contrived, corporate sponsorship scheme anyway. Phil doesn’t “owe” anybody anything. He’s contributed more than his fair share to this sport and he’s earned the right to take his kid to school if he wants to.
Well Chokelson finally came thru against Tiger. As much as I don’t like his ever-present smile, I was delighted to see someone play like they were NOT in the group with Tiger. Phil did well and his short game was spectacular as usual (curse him). But the thing that most made me deign to Lefty was his family-centric answer when asked if he would be playing next week. I like that he mentioned his kids starting school and that particular event might have him skipping. Good for Phil for remembering the important things.
I still wish Tiger had won…hehe.
