Winter Golf

Now some of us here in the Midwest can only watch the Golf Channel on TV and wish we were someplace warm. So, what do you do when the weather goes south? I’ve been considering getting a practice net and a launch monitor for my basement (something like this—http://www.golfachiever.com/). I’m just wondering if there are any other cheaper solutions/ideas out there to cure the winter golfing blues…

A launch monitor might be pretty cool, but all you really need is a net, a piece of carpet and a full length mirror. That’s the setup I have in my basement and I love it. The net I have is called a “cagemouth” and I think I paid $100 for it. I got the mirror at k-mart for $20. It’s not exactly like hitting balls at the range, but it’s still a valuable practice tool. Now that the PGA is cranking back up, I’m going crazy also. It’s fun to go down there after watching a tournament and hit balls.

Come play in LA!

I have a similar set-up in my basenment and I use it a lot. Check on ebay for your net. I have a large, good quality net that’s like a tent cut in half. I’ve seen it sell in the stores for right at $100 and I got it new on ebay for $39. I still see it being sold at that price, I think some guy has a little biz on the side selling that.

Come play in South Carolina, the weather’s great. Although I played Saturday and the wind chill had to be in the 30’s. We were all dressed in shorts and short sleeve shirts freezing our a!& off! I couldn’t even feel my hands on the club!
