New Callaway Irons are Designed for Better Golfers

Apex Muscleback and Utility Irons Are More Versatile Than Ever

Better player alert! Callaway just announced it is taking online custom orders for its new Apex Muscleback Irons (pictured below) and Apex Utility Irons (pictured above).

Apex irons are specifically designed for elite-level golfers—single-digit-handicap players or better—who love the look, feel and shot-shaping performance of a blade.

The Tour-inspired Apex Muscleback ($1,100 suggested retail for the 2-PW set) is regarded Callaway’s premium forged iron. It is “quad forged” from carbon steel, with features that include an optimized sole camber that provides more turf and lie versatility than a standard muscleback design.

“The best players hit their long irons high and their short irons low,” said Callaway spokesperson Harry Arnett, “and the Apex Muscleback is specifically designed to do that.”

The Apex Utility is also quad forged from carbon steel, crafted to provide higher ball speeds, more forgiveness and additional ball-shaping workability from the tee and varying turf conditions. The iron ($230) is available in 18-, 21- and 24-degree lofts.

“Before when we had utilities, we tried to make the iron bigger,” said Arnett. “In the Apex Utility, we actually took a lot of the thinking we do with our hybrids and made the iron shape smaller.”

Both Apex designs are finished in luminous, satiny chrome, and have been popular with touring professionals since their introduction at the 2014 British Open. They are scheduled for availability starting Sept. 12. For more, go online to callawaygolf.com.
