Golf by Numbers: The Fall Issue

A few things you need to know you need to know about the Colorado golf scene

4 public courses in Colorado now feature nine-hole FootGolf courses: Saddleback Golf Course in Firestone; Park Hill in Denver; Springs Ranch in Colorado Springs; and EagleVail in Avon. Foot- Golfers play with a regulation #5 soccer ball on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups. No holes are longer than 200 yards, with most less than 100. The rules largely correspond to the Rules of Golf, with the USGA-esque American FootGolf League subjecting to R&A-type regulation by the London-based Federation for International Foot- Golf (FIFG). EagleVail PGA Director of Golf Ben Welsh introduced it on the Par-3 course in August as a way to generate business from non-golfers and families with soccer-crazed kids. Will a game that takes less time, less land and less equipment than regular golf catch on? Well, since its 2011 inception in Palm Springs, FootGolf has spread to 215 courses in 38 states, and 25 countries now belong to the FIFG. Ain’t that a kick? afgl.us

23 current and incoming college golfers—including CGA State Stroke Play Champion David Oraee of the University of Colorado and current state high-school champions Kyler Dunkle and Spencer Painton—claim Trent Wearner as their teacher. This brings to 81 the number of collegiate golfers Wearner, who runs his academy out of Meridian Golf Club, has coached during his career. He will receive his second Colorado PGA Teacher of the Year honor in November. trentwearnergolf.com
