DU Men Eye Summit Conference Title

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s golf team begins postseason play on Monday at the par- 72, 6,953 yard Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club in the 2014 Summit League Golf Championship. Tournament action is underway at 6:30 a.m. MT with top-seeded Denver set to tee-off at 8 a.m. MT.

In its third different conference in as many seasons, Denver will look to win a second Conference Title in four years. In the preseason rankings, Denver was projected to finish first. The Pioneers lead the Summit League in combined scoring average at 291.9 while South Dakota is second with 300.4 stroke average in two fewer rounds.

“After a good week of practice, the guys all came to Texas with confidence,” said Head Coach Eric Hoos. “We played the course in January and again today in the practice round so there won’t be any surprises out there tomorrow.” “I’m confident the guys will get off to a strong start in the first round, and I’m looking for our seniors to lead the way.”

LAST TIME OUT:
Last season in the Western Athletic Conference Championship, Denver placed seventh with a combined score of 53-over par 917. Arvidsson paced the Pioneers with a 5th place finish after a seven-over par performance. Ramsnes tied for 11th with a nine over par, while Doka carded an 18-over par for the tournament. Senior Jordan Burgess (Greely, Colo.) shot 22-over for a top-50 finish.

LAST CONFERENCE TITLE:
When the Pioneer senior leaders were freshman in 2011, Arvidsson and Ramsnes held up their first conference championship trophy with the Sun Belt Conference hardware. Arvidsson finished in eighth individually with a one-under par, while Ramsnes was even-par and finised in 11th place. DU-Alum Klinton Krieger (Cheyenne, Wyoming) moved into a tie for 11th with along with Ramsnes.
