Murphy Fires Second 68, Expands Lead at CGA Senior Stroke Play

Thornton – 2006 champion Steve Murphy of Black Bear GC fired his second consecutive 68 for an eight-under total of 136 to expand his lead in the CGA Senior Stroke Play Championship at Heritage Todd Creek in Thornton. He will take a five-stroke lead into the final round over Rick Gorbell of Springs Ranch GC who shot 69 to move into second at 141. Murphy will be vying for his second wire-to-wire victory in this event in three years. When he won in 2006, Murphy had a six-stroke lead in the final round when Gorbell nearly caught him, and it will once again be Gorbell leading the chase on Wednesday.
 
Also in the hunt is five-time champion John Olive of the Broadmoor GC who carded an even par 72 to remain under par at 143. Greg Goode of Castle Pines GC is also at 143, and both are one stroke ahead of defending champion and 2007 CGA Senior Player of the Year Robert Polk of Colorado GC, and 2003 champion Kelly Crone of Deer Creek at Meadow Ranch, who are at even par 144.
 
Final pairings and scorecards can be found at www.COgolf.org. The field was cut at 156 to the low 40 plus ties for the final round. The tee times will begin at 7:00 am with final group of leaders teeing off at 9:06 am.
