Murphy Fires 68, Leads CGA Senior Stroke Play

Thornton – 2006 champion Steve Murphy of Black Bear GC fired a four-under 68 in the first round to take a three stroke lead in the CGA Senior Stroke Play Championship at the new Heritage Todd Creek in Thornton. Murphy has a strong group of players chasing him however as four players are tied at 71 including defending champion and 2007 CGA Senior Player of the Year Robert Polk of Colorado GC. Also at 71 is five-time champion John Olive of the Broadmoor GC. Olive will be looking for his sixth win in this event since 1997 which will pull him within one of the all-time leader Larry Eaton who won seven times between 1981 and 1991. 

 
Joining Polk and Olive at 71 are Ron Perry of Willis Case GC and Greg Goode of Castle Pines GC. Two players are at even par 72, and four players are five shots off the lead at 73 including 2003 champion Kelly Crone of Deer Creek at Meadow Ranch.
