Harrell Fires 65 - Leads 72nd CGA Stroke Play

Denver – Kory Harrell of Eisenhower GC fired an opening round 65 to take a two-stroke lead in the 72nd CGA Stroke Play Championship at the prestigious Pinehurst Country Club in Denver. Harrell, a recent Air Academy graduate who will play for the University of Northern Colorado this fall, won the CGA Junior Stroke Play Championship earlier this year. 

2006 champion and CU player Patrick Grady of Omni Interlocken is two strokes off the lead at 67. Grady has won five CGA individual titles in his career, and is the only player to win the CGA Stroke Play, Public Links (2007), and Match Play (2005) Championships. Also carding a 67 was Jonathan Marsico of Green Gables CC. Three players came in at 68 including Grady’s CU teammate and current CGA Match Play champion Luke Symons of Valley CC, 2004 CGA Player of the Year Steve Irwin of Lakewood CC, and Jon Lindstrom of Legacy Ridge GC. 

Martin Prazak of Colorado GC and Justin Spray of CC of Colorado are four strokes back at 69. Six players are tied at even-par 70. The field will be cut Friday to the low 40 plus ties for the final two rounds.
