Four Players Qualify for U.S. Mid-Amateur

Falcon, Colo. – Michael Harrington of Colorado Springs. fired a two-under-par 70 at Antler Creek Golf Course to qualify for the U.S. Mid Amateur Championship and earn USGA low qualifier medalist honors. Harrington will be looking to improve upon his impressive performance in the 2005 U.S. Mid-Amateur where he made to the round of 16 before falling to fellow Colorado player Rick DeWitt. 

Jon Lindstrom of Broomfield. Colo. shot 71 to earn the second of four available spots. Lindstom has twice been selected to the CGA Colorado Cup Team (2002-2003). Also qualifying at 71 was Jason Rudquist of Peyton, Colo. who will be playing in his second consecutive U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. The final spot was earned by John Halverson of Steamboat Springs, Colo. who was the only other player in the field to finish under par at 71.

In a three-way playoff at 72, David Delich of Colorado Springs earned the first alternate position. Delich recently played in the U.S. Senior Open at his home club (The Broadmoor Golf Club) where he had the honor of hitting the first shot of the tournament. It took seven extra holes for Steven Summers of Dallas, Tex. to earn the second alternate position over 2007qualifier James Kurtenbach of Denver.

The four qualifiers will play in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship to be held September 6-11, 2008 at Milwaukee CC in River Hills, Wis.
