Kent, Lee Win Inaugural CJGA 14-18 Junior Series Championship
Aurora–Douglas County High School junior Cody Kent and Overland High School sophomore Somin Lee took home top honors in the inaugural CJGA Junior Series Championship at Saddle Rock Golf Course in Aurora.
Kent, a USGA Junior Amateur Qualifier and a member of the Colorado Junior Americas Cup team, was in second place after firing a first round score of two-under par 70. Kent showed the consistency that has been with him the entire season following up his first round score with an even par round of 72 to take home top honors.
First round leader Derek Fribbs (4-under - 68), a senior at Douglas County High School and a teammate of Kent’s, struggled in the second round carding a 5-over 77 to finish in third place. Joe Schwark of Broomfield finished in second place with a two day total of even-par 144.
In the girls’ division Somin Lee rode a first round score of 1-over 73 to take home the championship. Lee made the tournament interesting with a second round score of 83. Fourteen year-old Bryce Schroeder of Pueblo tied with Robin Lee of Highlands Ranch for second place. Lee, a recent graduation of Highlands Ranch High School, will be attending Columbia University in New York this fall.
The CJGA Junior Series Championship was created as a season ending event where the top 40 boys and top 20 girls off of the CJGA Points List compete for the title of the best player in the Colorado.
