Quarterfinals Set for 58th Junior Match Play Championship

 
John Ahern of Morrison upset top seeded Oliver Grabb of Boulder in the round of 32, then beat Michael Lee of Greeley 2 up to earn a place in the quarterfinals of the 58th CGA Junior Match Play Championship at Bear Creek Golf Club. Ahern, who is a member of the 2008 Colorado Boys’ Junior America’s Cup Team, will face Cameron Freeman of Fort Collins who defeated Steven Kupcho of Westminster 4 and 3 in the round of 16 to advance. Robert Quick of Littleton, who will attend Regis University in the fall, made the quarterfinals by ousting Basalt’s Jim Knous 2 up. Quick will face Brian Dorfman of Greenwood Village who defeated Brennan Dolan of Boulder 2 and 1 to stay in the hunt. Dorfman will play for Georgetown in the fall.
 
Also making the quarterfinals was Zahkai Brown of Arvada (CSU-bound) who beat Joseph Schwark of Broomfield 1 up on the final hole. Brown’s opponent will be Clark Shafer of Castle Rock who defeated Chad Novak of Pueblo 2 and 1 to advance. David Holtgrewe of Englewood upset the #3 seed Derek Fribbs of Castle Rock 3 and 2 to make the quarterfinals. He will face Brenden Beeg of Littleton who knocked out the current CGA Junior Stroke Play champion Kory Harrell of Colorado Springs 2 and 1 to earn his place in the quarterfinals.
 
--The quarterfinals will be played Thursday morning, and the semifinals will be played Thursday afternoon.
