Top Seeds Advance in 58th Junior Match Play Championship

Top seeded Oliver Grabb of Boulder overpowered Ben Davis of Lakewood 8 and 6 to advance to the round of 32 in the 58th CGA Junior Match Play Championship at Bear Creek Golf Club. Brendan Connolly (#2 seed) of Castle Rock also moved on by defeating Chris Keirns of Thornton 3 and 2 in Tuesday round of 64. Connolly was recently named to the 2008 Colorado Boys’ Junior America’s Cup Team. In a closely contested match, Derek Fribbs (#3 seed) of Castle Rock snuck past Dylan Wonnacott of Longmont winning 1 up on the 18th hole.  Fourth seeded Jim Knous of Basalt also stayed in the hunt beating Nick Miller of Centennial 5 and 4.

Others advancing to the round of 32 included current CGA Junior Stroke Play champion Kory Harrell of Colorado Springs, runner-up Branden Barron of Aurora, and both John Ahern of Morrison and Brennan Dolan of Boulder who are also members of  the 2008 Colorado Boys’ Junior America’s Cup Team.

 

--The round of 32 will be played Wednesday morning, and the round of 16 will be played Wednesday afternoon.

--Match results and scorecards will be posted online after each match concludes on the match play tree at www.cogolf.org. 

--The 36-hole final match will be on Friday, July 18th.
