Brown Begins Defense of CGA Match Play Title

CSU player Zen Brown of Indian Tree GC began defense of his title with a 2 and 1 victory over Brian Nichols of Columbine CC in the 108th CGA Match Play Championship at Plum Creek Golf and Country Club. Also advancing to the round of 32 was the second seed Devin Schreiner of Hillcrest CC who defeated Rick Ewing of Desert Hawk at Pueblo West 5 and 4. CU player Luke Symons of Valley CC (#3 seed) beat Kyle Beard of The Pinery CC 4 and 3 to advance, and CU teammate Jim Grady of Omni Interlocken (#4 seed) was a 4 and 2 winner over Brian Gott of Murphy Creek GC. Other CU players to advance to the round of 32 included 2005 champion Patrick Grady of Omni Interlocken and current CGA Public Links champion Derek Tolan of South Suburban Family SC.

 

Other winners in the round of 64 included 2004 champion Steve Irwin of Lakewood CC, current CGA Senior Match Play champion Ken Sady of Eagle Ranch GC, 2007 CGA Junior Player of the Year Mark Hubbard of Pinehurst CC, and 2007 CGA Senior Player of the Year Robert Polk of Colorado GC. Worth noting is that Patrick Grady is the 2007 CGA Les Fowler Player of the Year, which means all three current CGA Players of the Year are in the round of 32.

 

--The round of 32 will be played Wednesday morning, and the round of 16 will be played Wednesday afternoon.

--The 36-hole final match will be on Friday, July 11th.
