Brown Set to Defend CGA Match Play Title

 

CSU player Zen Brown of Indian Tree GC will begin defense of his title Tuesday as the exempt top seed in the 108th CGA Match Play Championship at the prestigious Plum Creek Golf and Country Club in Castle Rock. On Monday, 96 players competed for the remaining 63 seeds in the championship bracket, and three players shot 67 to earn the second through fourth seeds. Devin Schreiner of Hillcrest GC will be the #2 seed, CU player Luke Symons of Valley CC will the #3 seed, and CU teammate Jim Grady of Omni Interlocken will be the #4 seed.  Also qualifying for match play from the 2008 CU golf team was 2005 champion Patrick Grady (73) of Omni Interlocken and current CGA Public Links champion Derek Tolan (71) of South Suburban Family SC. 2004 champion Steve Irwin (74) of Lakewood CC joined Brown and Grady as the only past champions to make the championship bracket. 

NOTE: Both Jim and Patrick Grady (brothers) recently qualified to play in the 2008 and U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

Others qualifying for match play included current CGA Junior Stroke play champion Kory Harrell (72) of Eisenhower GC, current CGA Senior Match Play champion Ken Sady (76) of Eagle Ranch GC, and 2007 CGA Senior Player of the Year Robert Polk (77) of Colorado GC.

 

Match play begins Tuesday.  Complete results and the match play tree will be online at www.cogolf.org The 36-hole final match will be on Friday, July 11th.
