Seventeen players qualify for HealthONE Colorado Open

The first of four qualifying rounds for the 2008 HealthONE Colorado Open concluded with 17 players advancing into the championship.  Jesse Wheeler of Logandale, NV topped the 83 player field at Springs Ranch Golf Club in Colorado Springs with a 6 under par round of 66.  After making the turn at even par, Wheeler kicked off the back nine with an eagle 3 on the par 5 eleventh hole.  Just a few holes later, the horn blew and play was suspended.   Even the weather delay couldn’t shake Wheeler’s strong play as he carded another eagle on the 17th hole after sitting in the clubhouse for nearly 3 hours waiting for the lightning to pass.  A score of 71 placed a group of six players in a playoff for the final four qualifying spots.  Four players were present for the playoff and automatically earned the positions. 
 
The 2008 HealthONE Colorado Open will be held at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club on July 24-27.  The remaining qualifying rounds are:  July 10 at Eagle Ranch Golf Course in Eagle, and July 17 and July 21 at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster.  A total of 62 players will advance into the Championship with 17 determined today.  Eight total players will be placed on the alternate list and the 4th and 8th spots overall were determined today.
